Mathematical Scientist

Position Summary

Research and develop new methodologies to apply statistical analysis, scoring, and correction techniques to our Numerical Weather Prediction forecasts.   The position will take an active role in helping design neural network, SVM, ARMA, or other statistical correction models to improve the accuracy of Weather Central’s proprietary forecasts for renewable energy customers.

Our Ideal Candidate

    • Enjoy finding hidden relationships in datasets.
    • Earned an advanced degree in Applied Statistics, Mathematical Finance, Econometrics, or other discipline related to Time-Series Analysis and Forecasting
    • When you talk of improving the cost of the system… you’re not talking about buying cheaper hard drives.
    • Excited to research, recommend, and implement statistical post process correction techniques to our proprietary wind speed forecast.
    • Get excited when you hear “Petabytes of Data”
    • Would be ready to actively engage the worldwide wind energy forecasting research community and ready to publish new findings.
    • Comfortable with NoSQL database techniques such as key/value and map reduce.
    • Can demonstrate mastery of scientific computing packages such as R, MATLAB, SAS, Scilab, Octave, etc.
    • Have 1-2 years commercial or academic experience developing predictive models using neural networks, support vector machines, or other statistical techniques.
    • Familiarity with Meteorology a plus, but not required.
    • Want to improve the world.
