Weather Central 1KM resolution forecasts, severe weather solutions, and sophisticated storytelling tools to provide audience with reliable weather information on air, online and on mobile devicesTweet
Madison, Wisconsin December 19, 2011 – ABS-CBN, one of the leading television broadcasters in the Philippines, has begun deployment of 3D:LIVE™ from Weather Central, providers of the most-viewed broadcast weather system in the world. Once deployed the system will be the most advanced weather forecasting system of its kind in the Philippines, enabling ABS-CBN to significantly improve its weather presentation and to dramatically improve predictions for severe weather in the meteorologically active region.
“Despite being home to famously dynamic weather, Filipinos have never had access to reliable, local weather forecasting,” said Ging Reyes, ABS-CBN Head of News and Current Affairs. “This has significant and sometimes tragic impact on people’s lives. Now in one bold move, ABS-CBN plans to change that. Weather Central’s 3D:LIVE gives us access to the most precise weather data with remarkable tools for conveying that information to our viewers in an easily understandable way, whether they are watching TV or checking in using their mobile phone or computer.”
The 3D:LIVE systems purchased by ABS-CBN are the core of a multi-platform solution that combines patented technologies and exclusive storytelling tools that will enable the broadcaster to more effectively reach its TV audience, web site visitors, and now mobile app users. A number of interactive technologies will enable presenters to direct viewers’ attention including:
VividCast™ data technology will provide high resolution point forecasts with predictive feedback minutes, hours, or days ahead for any latitude/longitude in the Philippines. This will enable ABS-CBN to provide critical early warnings to its viewers during the dangerous typhoon season. The News Synergy™ mobile app will further enable ABS-CBN to distribute branded news, weather including integrated interactive weather radar, sports, politics, entertainment, classifieds, photos, videos and more to the Apple® iOS and Android™ mobile digital devices. Push notifications will enable ABS-CBN to alert mobile subscribers to severe weather and other important news.
“ABS-CBN has set out to change the nature of weather forecasting and reporting in the Philippines and Weather Central is proud to play a part in the process,” said Weather Central’s Chip Mobley, VP International Business. “ABS-CBN made the right choice for its audience when it set out to fill a gap that has existed in the region. Not only will ABS-CBN forecasts look great, but for the first time the Philippine market will have a reliable and easy to understand source for critical weather information.”
